The SP-600 was designed as a communications receiver and as such it must perform that function equally well in all modes of reception. While it might be pleasing to listen to an AM BC station with a bass response that goes subterranean, this type of response is a hindrance to good CW copy. The FBI and CIA both used the SP-600.
